New York City is where I call home, or to be even more specific the West Village. I have been living on 13th Street in a small (or as real estate agents say COZY), two bedroom apartment in the West Village since October 1993 - Yikes time went quickly. The neighborhood has changed over the years, mostly for the better - better restaurants, shops, gourmet food markets, and of course the Apple Store. But with the meat packing district turning super trendy there is a downside.... outrageous prices, an influx of the bridge and tunnel crowd, and some great old places going out of business (Florent - to name one).
I share my apartment with the occassional German house guest or wayward friend in need of a room for a stay. About 7 years ago I took in a friend of a friend from Germany who needed a place to stay while doing an internship and through word of mouth this led to no less than 14 German roommates over the years. Sad to say I have had little improvement in my German language skills, but an overall great experience. These roommates bring an exciting and fresh perspective to a city I often take for granted.
